History and Introduction of the Faculty of Intelligence and Informatics

The Faculty of Intelligence and Informatics has started to meet various needs of the rapidly advancing information society in the 21st century. The faculty was established in 2008, reorganizing and developing the Department of Information Science and Systems Engineering in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Konan University. The department started in 2001 as a combination and unification of two departments, namely the department of Management Science and the Department of Applied Mathematics. The Department of the Management science of the Faculty of Science started back in 1959, which had facilities consisting of the cut-edge computer IBM650. This was almost the first advent of computers in education in Japan. In 1964, the Department of Applied Mathematics started, which covered the scientific fields including pure mathematics, information theory, computer science, mathematical programming, and systems science.

The Department of Information Science and Systems Engineering in Graduate School of Natural Science, Konan University started in 1993 to contribute in advanced research and education leading to Master's degrees, and started in 1995 leading to Doctoral degrees.
